How to delegate effectively, Part 1

This is why Amelia Bedelia always did her job wrong.

Be super clear about your expectations.

“Check out that email I sent you” is not enough when you’re delegating an important task. You want to make sure your employee/co-worker knows what to do, how to do it, and when to do it.

Before giving a task over completely, make sure your designated delegate is comfortable with the steps she will need to take.

(Had Mrs. Rogers only told Amelia Bedelia to “put the wet towels in the laundry and replace them with clean dry ones” instead of “change the towels,” she would have been a lot less frustrated when she came home.)
